Officials from the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) have met a senior delegation of Japan’s Matsushita Electric Industrial Company, manufacturers of the National and Panasonic brand of electronics, to discuss ways of cooperation to tackle counterfeit electronic brands in the region.
The delegation explained the issue of counterfeit National and Panasonic products and asked the DED officials for the cooperation of combating against counterfeit and Intellectual property violators.
“The DED officials expressed their support of combating the problem of counterfeit products and assured us that our issue would be taken up seriously,” said Yasuyo Nakamura, Matsushita delegation head. “It was a very fruitful discussion and we appreciate the sincerity of Dubai government officials to take concrete measures to stamp out fake products from the market.”
“Dubai has been vigorously campaigning against violations of trademarks and copyright laws,” said Mohammed Hilal Al-Muroushedi, director of the Compliance Division at DED. “DED has a strong team that monitors the market for counterfeit goods. We like to work in tandem with well-known brands so that we can catch the culprits. We discussed the problems faced by Matsushita during the delegation's visit and assured them that action will be taken against violators of their trademarks through regular inspections of outlets across Dubai.”
