The best marketing prize for 1999 was awarded to McDonald's fast-food chain in Qatar. The fast-food giant merited the honor for its success in the local market and for its innovative marketing and promotion methods, Al-Raya Daily reported. The award was presented by McDonald's International at its recent conference held last month in Orlando, Florida. Mr. Kamal Saleh al-Hamad al-Mane, who is both the Executive Manager of Al-Mane Restaurant Company and the Qatari franchiser of the U.S. fast-food chain, accepted the award on the company's behalf.
According to the Arab Gulf press reports, McDonald's intends to spend approximately $55 million in new outlets and marketing activities. McDonald's aims to grow from less than 130 outlets in mid-1999, to over 200 outlets in these markets by the end of 2000. (albawaba.com news agency)
