ALBAWABA – Meta, the American multinational technology company that owns and operates Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and WhatsApp, announced the donation of $1 million to support President-elect Donald Trump's upcoming inauguration.

Zuckerberg supports the republicans

Meta announced donating $1 million to support Trump’s inauguration on January 20 shortly after the meeting between Mark Zuckerberg, founder, chairman, and CEO of Meta and Trump.

According to Stephen Miller, deputy chief of staff for Trump’s second term, Zuckerberg and other tech leaders are planning to support Trump, his economic initiatives, and the Republican Party.

The tense relationship between Trump and Zuckerberg

Given the history between Trump and Zuckerberg, which was not particularly positive, it is believed that Zuckerberg is now trying to mend their relationship.

It is worth noting that Meta deleted Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts after the attack on the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021. Trump was able to restore his accounts back in 2023.

On the other hand, Trump was always known for his criticism of Meta and once called the platform 'anti-Trump' in 2017. Trump also mentioned in a book he published in September 2024 that Zuckerberg would spend the rest of his life in prison if he attempted to interfere with the 2024 election.

During the 2024 presidential election campaign, Zuckerberg showed signs of supporting Trump and condemned the two failed assassination attempts that occurred.
