ALBAWABA - Meta, formerly named Facebook, the American multinational technology conglomerate, announced recent layoffs for its employees in WhatsApp and Instagram companies. The layoffs are mainly affecting workforces at Meta’s Reality Labs division.

Meta new round of layoffs

According to sources, Meta began laying off some of its employees across various divisions, including WhatsApp and Instagram. The company is currently undergoing a layoff process in small groups rather than mass layoffs, as reported by The Verge.

A Meta spokesman said: "This includes moving some teams to different locations, and moving some employees to different roles. In situations like these when a role is eliminated, we work hard to find other opportunities for impacted employees.”

It is worth noting that the company laid off approximately 11,000 employees for the first time in 2022 amid the coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, Meta announced another round of layoffs affecting nearly 10,000 employees in 2023.

Meta’s recent decisions and market status

The company did not specify the exact number of recent job cuts but indicated that it would involve a small number of positions.

It is worth mentioning that Meta’s shares experienced an increase of about 60% this year and exceeded the market’s expectations for revenues.
