When the doors to the Dubai International Exhibition Centre (DIEC) open this Wednesday, it will be to the biggest trade exhibition the Middle East has seen, said Index 2002 organizers, dmg Index Exhibitions.
According to Managing Director of dmg Index Exhibitions, Bernard Walsh, nearly 1,500 companies from 53 countries will be represented at Index 2002, the 12th installment of the highly successful regional trade forum for the international furnishing and interiors industry.
This year Index will feature 23 national pavilions from Europe, Asia and the Americas, including for the first time an official Pakistan pavilion. Companies from Japan, Luxembourg and Morocco will also take part in the show for the first time.
The show, Walsh said, has recorded steady growth over the last decade. “Within ten years we have grown six fold and 2002 adds to this. Last year 934 exhibitors represented 1, 325 companies from across the globe. This year nearly 1,200 exhibitors will represent just under 1,500 firms.
dmg Index Exhibitions attributes the ongoing success of the show to the seemingly evergreen regional market, citing its exceptional economic robustness and willingness to invest while other markets slow. According to dmg Index Exhibitions' Commercial Director, Joe Berger, the latest information, drawn from trade statistics and estimates issued by individual countries, puts the region's furniture and interiors imports at approximately $2.8 billion for 2001.
