The Arab world’s investments in the telecommunication sector totaled $34 billion in 2000, reported Al-Hayat newspaper. This figure translates into a seven percent rise compared with the previous year. Telecom investments were particularly high in Saudi Arabia, Syria, Egypt and Morocco.
A report prepared by the Egyptian Hermes Financial Group revealed a considerable gap between telecommunication investments from one Arab country to another. The report situated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain in the top position in terms of the volume of investments in telecommunication in, with a $100 annual per capita average. — (Mena Report)
