Jordan Telecom and MobileCom announced Monday, June 11, a partnership with the Jordan Football Association (JFA) for a three-year sponsorship period, in a deal worth 340,000 Jordanian dinars ($479,000), according to a company press release. The agreement makes Jordan Telecom and MobileCom the exclusive telecommunications partners for the JFA, at all its games, events and activities until 2003.
"We are in the process of selecting a number of key sporting activities in which we can contribute," said Yanal Mufti, communications manager at MobileCom. "We believe that the game of football is the most popular sport in Jordan and our commitment to support its growth and popularity will help to further its success regionally."
Jordan Telecom, with an estimated capital of JD520 million according to company figures, runs Jordan’s technological infrastructure, forming the backbone for the country’s ISPs and mobile service providers. The firm partnered with the international provider, France Telecom, which along with the Arab Bank signed in January 2000 a $508-million deal to acquire 40 percent of Jordan Telecom.
