The Moroccan General Contracting Association has reported that the domestic automobile market had recovered by eight percent during the first half of 2000. Statistics recently publicized by the Moroccan Automobile Manufacturing Association and appearing in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat showed a 13 percent rise in the private car sales.
According to these figures, 10,331 new cars were registered at the transportation ministry in the first half of 2000, compared to 9,171 in the first half of 1999. In addition, 11 percent increase in the lightweight service vehicle sales.
However, the heavy truck sales declined by 12 percent, while bus sales decreased by 19 percent during the first half of 2000 compared with the corresponding period of last year. –(Albawaba-MEBG)
