The latest addition to the Morocco’s new economy trend is Maroc Telecommerce Ltd., is a consortium of the computer engineering service provider Intelcom and the four banks: Credit du Maroc, Banque Populaire, SGMB and BMCI.

The start up was established in May of 2000, with an initial investment of 20 million Moroccan Dirhams (MDh), and the idea of developing e-commerce solutions for companies. The e-commerce platform is expected to become operational by this coming October.

“Our challenge is finding solutions for making local products, particularly home-made ones, available to the US, European and Asian markets through the net”, stated Intelcom‘s manager, Mr. Ahmed Choukair.

The company is already in the process of setting up vendor sites for a number of commercial clients. Seeing competition from companies such as Omnidata and Agro-Marche Maroc, the new company intends on investing MDh 10 million within the next two years in online and offline marketing, according to Choukair.

Although Maroc Telecommerce is yet to complete work on its own web site, the company intends to go online at http://www.maroctelecommerce.com. ― (Albawaba-MEBG)
