Morocco will permit temporary Spanish fishing in its waters, following the November 19 oil spill catastrophe that struck the European country’s northwest shore, in the name of “economic solidarity and good neighborliness," reported. An expired EU-Moroccan fishing accord had allowed around 4,000 fishermen from Spain and Portugal to ply Moroccan waters.
This is a sign of improved relations between the two monarchies after a 10-day standoff this summer when Spain landed 75 troops on the Mediterranean Island of Perejil and removed Moroccan gendarmes who had been deployed there. On July 21, Spain agreed to withdraw its troops but firmly reiterated its ownership claims to the islet and its territorial waters. — (menareport.com)
