Telecomp-Morocco 2001, the country's second trade fair featuring international telecommunications, information systems, networks and broadcasting systems, opened Tuesday to the public in Casablanca, with exhibitions from 20 different countries on display.

The fair, which will run Tuesday through Friday, is organized jointly by Morocco-based Forum 7 and Germany's Trade Fair company.

The trade appeals to both professional visitors and members of the general public. It is organized, however, separately, so that a specific period of time was set aside for professionals-only, and other when all members of the public are welcomed.

Concurrent with Telecomp-Morocco 2001, an educational program will be run, including seminars, conferences and round table discussions.

There currently are 4.5 million fixed and mobile telephone subscribers in Morocco, up from 403,000 in 1990 to 4.5 million in 2001. Three million of the current users use mobile phones, while 1.5 million use fixed telephones. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
