The US led occupying Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) in Najaf, Iraq, recently awarded more than $125,000 for community initiatives to develop new water networks and repair existing water infrastructure.
The water projects will help people in eight communities, representing more than 23,500 Iraqis. Specifically, schools and religious shrines will benefit from the major repairs, reported a press release. CPA learned of the needs by working closely with people in these communities, as well as the Spanish Governance Support Team.
The local Iraqi contractors used for these projects were chosen from a bidding process. All the money is given in increments, and as the work is properly completed, more money will be given to the Iraqi contractors. Seized from the former regime assets, the money is now being used for development contracts. — (menareport.com)
