National Bank of Kuwait SAL (NBK) has teamed with mobile service provider LibanCell to provide real-time mobile banking services. Libancell subscribers with an NBK account will be able to use ‘Cellbanking’ to check their account balance, transfer funds between their own accounts, request a checkbook or a statement, get information on how to obtain a credit line, and receive the latest updates on NBK services. Additionally, clients can obtain information on their cell phones about transactions that they have conducted. LibanCell affirmed that it would enforce tight security measures for any banking transaction carried through its network, adding that it expects more than 1,000 clients to use the service.
Initially, subscribers to the service will receive three months of free messaging from LibanCell and six months of free service from NBK, after which they will be charged a fee. Mobile phone banking is still at an early stage in Lebanon. The only other bank to offer such services is Societe Generale Libano-Europeene de Banque that has partnered with Cellis last year to offer real-time mobile banking services. — ( Lebanon Invest )
