Turkey's looming energy shortage has created a market for mini-solutions, with a boom in candle sales and companies producing devices to cope with blackouts.
One of these, Escort Energy, has introduced a generator called "So-Watt." So-Watt starts up in a power outage. In homes or offices TVs, computers, VCRs, printers, tape decks, answering machines, fax machines, decoders and VCD players can easily be connected to So-Watt, and they continue to run when the power goes out,'' said General Manager Birol Ozcelik. So-Watt also protects these machines against electrical shorts and low voltage resulting from electricity shortages."
Ozcelik said the company has devised flexible payment plans to enable
many homes to have the generator. Saying that So-Watt will spread to all of Turkey's metropolitan centers in a short time, Ozcelik said, "Football match and film enjoyment won't be interrupted with So-Watt."
"Unfortunately Turkey faces a serious electricity shortage that will
apparently last for a long time. We developed So-Watt in order to solve our people's energy problems to some extent," he said at a news conference.
