Norwegian oil and gas group Statoil said on Monday it is considering opportunities for oil and gas exploration in Libya following the lifting of UN sanctions on the country in autumn 2003.

"These investigations are well under way", said Statoil Project Manager, Tore Sund, in a company statement. "We hope to be able to contribute technical expertise and experience in oil and gas production," he added.

Last week, Shell Petroleum Development signed $200 million oil and gas agreement with Libya, 20 years after it withdrew from operations in the Arab state. — (menareport.com)
