Hotels in Sharjah are currently fully booked, the Sharjah Commerce & Tourism Development Authority said in a statement on Wednesday after operators in the emirate reported 100 per cent occupancy.
The occupancy numbers coincide with school holidays in the UAE and other Gulf countries that started last Friday, March 29, and end on Thursday, April 9.
Total guest numbers were not stated, however, but Saudi Arabia accounted for 42,150 guests in Sharjah in January and February, according to the statement.
In January, there were 28,861 Saudi guests, an increase of 4 per cent over 27,741 in January 2014. In February, the number of Saudi guests in Sharjah hotels rose 30 per cent from 10,200 last year to 13,289.
Families from Saudi Arabia accounted for 15 per cent of guests in Sharjah’s hotels in January 2015 compared to 13 per cent a year earlier.
In February 2015, the figure stood at 9 per cent, up from 6 per cent in February 2014.
Visitors from Arab countries account for nearly a third of all guests in Sharjah hotels, the statement said.
