Oil Spill Response conference to take place in Saudi Arabia

The third conference and exhibition on Oil Spill Response and Contingency Planning in the Middle East will take place in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia, during April 2003. The bi-annual event is an opportunity for the region's marine environment industry to gather and discuss critical issues within the industry.  

 

Given the spate of recent international incidents there has never been a more appropriate time for the regions community to plan and take the appropriate action to ensure the protection of the ROPME Sea area countries, according to a company press release.  

 

The event is being organized by the Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment (ROPME) based in Kuwait and the Marine Emergency Mutual Aid Center (MEMAC) based in Bahrain. These government organizations are responsible for establishing and implementing various initiatives to protect the marine environment in the ROPME Sea Area.  

 

The three-day event will comprise plenary sessions, panel discussions and workshops to address the latest technologies and developments in areas such as: Oil and Chemical Hazards and the Environment, Emerging Technologies for Treating Oil and Chemical Spills, Oil Pollution Research Centre (OPRC) Convention, Remote Sensing -Oil Spill Fingerprinting and DNA Testing, Ballast Water, New Threat-New Convention, Liability and Pollution Assessment, Introduction of the ROPME Sea Area Claims Manual. — (menareport.com)
