(AFP) – In its latest development plan, the Omani government has set aside five trillion cubic feet of gas for industries in Sohar, as part ofa major industrialisation drive in the Indian Ocean port city of Sohar.
Speaking to the Oman Observer, Khalifa bin Mubarak al-Hinai, a government official said: "It will meet the feedstock and energy needs of the planned projects over their 25-year operational life," he said.
A 305-km pipeline will transport the gas from fields in Fahud, central Oman to a new industrial zone at Sohar, which is located 230 km northwest of Muscat. Saipem and Snamprogetti of Italy, together with the Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Co., have been awarded the Sohar pipeline contract, while India's Dodsal is to build a pipeline to Salalah in southern Oman.
