The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), in conjunction with the Federation of GCC Chambers of Commerce (FGCCC), will organise the first Oman Tourism Investment Conference on December 22-23.

The conference will be held at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel under the patronage of Sayyid Taimour al Said, assistant secretary general for international Cooperation at The Research Council.

Khalil al Khonji, chairman of OCCI and head of the supervisory committee of the conference, said the tourism sector is very important for the economy as the country seeks to raise the contribution of this sector to the GDP, as well as improve its capacity to absorb national manpower.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, he said the sultanate has an ideal atmosphere for tourism investment.

Khonji added that through organising the conference, the OCCI seeks to highlight the importance of the tourism sector in general and review the available investment opportunities, in addition to exchanging Gulf and international expertise in promoting investment in the sector.

Ibrahim al Nabhani, member of the OCCI board and head of the organising committee, said the conference will pave the way for tourism companies to invest in the sultanate.

He added that the conference will include sessions to discuss tourism integration and promotion, obstacles to tourism investment and proposed solutions, as well as tourism as an industry in the GCC, besides reviewing the Omani experience in the field of tourism investment.
