The Omani undersecretary of commerce and industry, Ali Bin Masoud Al-Seneidy, recently told Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, that the competitiveness of the Omani products had grown substantially in the international markets over the past five years following the full removal of protection from these products.
The Omani industrial exports hit 236 million Omani riyals (RO) in 1999, which is equivalent to 30 percent of the Sultanate’s total exports. However, the undersecretary asserted that nowadays it is difficult to penetrate global markets due to sharp competition and high technological specifications and standards requirements. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
