Alcatel has signed a contract with Omantel, the incumbent operator in the Sultanate of Oman, for the deployment of a Litespan Next Generation Digital Loop Carrier access solution.

Alcatel's solution will be implemented in two phases, in the regions of Al-Ghubra and Al-Khadra, providing over 45 000 connections.

Omantel will reduce its operating costs with the new solution while delivering new narrowband and broadband services. The product will also enable Omantel to meet the evolving demand and to build a high capacity access network designed to facilitate the evolution to next generation networks.

Alcatel provides solutions, enabling carriers, service providers and enterprises to deliver content to any type of user worldwide. With sales of €16.5 billion in 2002, Alcatel operates in more than 130 countries. — (menareport.com)
