ALBAWABA – OpenAI, the American artificial intelligence research organization, and Anthropic, the American based artificial intelligence startup public-benefit company, announced sharing their AI models with the US government for safety testing.

OpenAI and Anthropic respond to US government concerns about AI applications

OpenAI and Anthropic made an agreement with the US Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute, part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a federal agency. Under the agreement, the two companies will share their own AI models to be tested for safety measurements.

It is worth noting that the operations of OpenAI’s ChatGPT have been a major concern for the government, as a result, the two companies agreed to allow the US government to monitor their regulations.

NIST said it will provide its comments on safety improvements for both companies and will work closely with the AI Safety Institute (AISI) at the UK.

Elizabeth Kelly, Director of US AI Safety Institute, said: “With these agreements in place, we look forward to beginning our technical collaborations with Anthropic and OpenAI to advance the science of AI safety, “These agreements are just the start, but they are an important milestone as we work to help responsibly steward the future of AI.”

White House collaboration

This collaboration is considered part of an executive AI work for the White House announced in 2023, that was designed in the purpose of providing legal backdrop for the rapid deployment of AI models in the US.

It is worth mentioning that the US government advocates for companies to operate on their own in the field of AI, while the EU imposes rules on these companies.
