Led by Sergio Giacoletto, Executive Vice President of Oracle Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA); the group demonstrated the ongoing work of Oracle in the Kingdom and the achievements to date of the inaugural office in Amman.

During his trip, Giacoletto will mark the one-year anniversary of the Amman office with a dinner hosted by His Excellency Mr. Omar al Kurdi, Jordan’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology, and the management of Jordan’s IT and Technology Association (int@j).

“Since my last visit, I have seen a tremendous increase in the activities and results demonstrated by Oracle’s team in Jordan, including a partnership with the Jordanian University of Science and Technology,” commented Sergio Giacoletto, Executive Vice President, Oracle EMEA. “Our commitment to use this office as a base from which to deliver training and skills development has been encapsulated through these partnerships and others, whether supporting in-country development of applications in Jordanian universities or deploying open standards in Jordan Commercial Bank.”

Jordan has long been a byword for dynamism in the IT sector in the region, with great commitment and drive demonstrated by the country’s public sector toward creating a vibrant technology-centric economy. When announcing the opening of the Amman office in 2005, Oracle committed to working together with the government to deliver this vision of local excellence, and now has a staff of more than 35 Jordanian nationals who have been working together to put these foundations in place. The team have been working closely with the Government of Jordan to establish closer working ties including a framework around Oracle licenses and services which will be beneficial to the growth of the country’s IT sector.

“Delivering customer capability through local expertise has been a pillar of our success so far in Amman,” commented Kassem Fares, Managing Director, Oracle, Levant region. “The inauguration of this office and the visit of senior executives to the region underscores Oracle’s determination to deliver real value to our customers in the Kingdom, whether directly or through our channel.”

The Center is designed to act as a hub for providing training to government employees as well as University graduates, to speed the adoption of eGovernment initiatives and ensure that the growing IT industry in the country has a steady supply of graduates armed with the right tools to start their careers. Also, this Education Center  is designed to cater for providing Oracle Education for  students from the nearby countries.

“Investment in the IT sector continues to be a central tenet of the government’s economic strategy, and this will promote ongoing growth in the importance of the country as a center of research and innovation in the region,” commented Husam Dajani, Vice President, Oracle Middle East and Africa. “We expect great things from the Jordanian nationals we see emerging from the universities and academies, and look forward to the developments their research brings to IT in the region, and around the world.”
