The Egyptian Orascom Telecom Company launched a second mobile telecommunication network in Algeria yesterday, reported Al-Hayat . The operating permit costs of this GSM based mobile telecommunication network totaled $737 million, of which 50 percent was paid last July and the rest will be paid through future installments. The President of Orascom, Najeeb Sawers, said that 30,000 persons had already subscribed to the new network and that this figure is expected to reach 500,000 subscribers by the end of the present year and to one million subscribers by August 2003. — (menareport.com)
