The Palestinian Internet community in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem recently announced the establishment of the Palestine Chapter of the Internet Society. The Chapter was recognized as ISOC-PS and was chartered by the US-based Internet Society in January 2003 after a prolonged period of being under formation.

While most academic and economic Palestinian sectors have come to a screeching halt due to the ongoing twenty-seven months of Israeli military actions in the Palestinian Authority areas, the Palestinian Internet community refused to be intimidated or distracted.

The Palestine Chapter bylaws state that it is a not-for-profit organization, that aims to serve the interests of the Palestinian segment of the global Internet community. Local registration with the Palestinian Authority is currently in process. Additionally, the chapter will serve persons who live, work, or are interested in the development of the Internet in Palestine. — (menareport.com)
