The Director General of the Dubai Soft Drinks Company (Pepsi Cola), Mohammed Zakariya, was recently cited by Al-Bayan newspaper, stating that his company’s net profits had hit a peak record of Dh 17 million in 2000.

According to Zakariya, “this is a quite impressive income level, especially if one takes into consideration the recently rising raw materials prices on one hand and the spreading competition in the local soft drinks markets on the other.” He added that his company presently dominates 65-68 percent of the local soft drink sales.

Mr. Zakariya, estimated that following the installing of a new production line, his company will control 70 percent of the total soft drinks market in Dubai next year.

The new line will be capable of filling both glass and plastic made bottles. In addition, the capacity of this line will amount to 30,000 bottles per hour, which is equivalent to 125 boxes. The new line is expected to increase the company’s output by one third. –(Albawaba-MEBG)
