Philips today announced its ambitions to further grow its Consumer Electronics business into a leading position in Middle East. The company unveiled plans to strengthen the division in line with its global objectives, aiming at a top three position in each market segment it serves, stated a press release.

Growth will be driven by a clear focus on the company's core competencies in displays, storage and connectivity, and capitalizing on a series of new innovations and technology breakthroughs. The company has a range of new technologies and concepts to offer in the display area. Philips is releasing the first Matchline television sets to incorporate its Pixel Plus technology. This image processing technique results in incredible sharpness, detail and depth to the TV picture.

In addition, Philips is introducing a high-performance LCD computer monitor that also features a full-function television receiver. With its resizable picture-in-picture, this new product allows users to work on their PC while watching television in a separate window.

Philips will also market its new Fisio range of GSM mobile phones, which combine operation and design with advanced GPRS technology for mobile Internet access. The Fisio 820 has a large, full-colour LCD display, Bluetooth connectivity and the ability to receive and store color photos and graphics.

Philips also unveiled the new Detachable Monitor concept. This product will free users from the constraints of being physically connected to their computers. The displays will deliver Internet access, entertainment and access to other information anywhere in users' wireless-networked homes.

Philips has launched a product strategy aimed at broadening the Internet experience beyond its present PC-based boundaries into home entertainment. Philips' Internet Audio range, when used with a broadband connection, delivers uninterrupted streaming digital audio with access to more than a thousand of the world's most popular Internet radio stations. The new Streamium micro-system gives consumers the choice of their on line music listening, by creating either personalized radio stations or play lists from music stored in a secure ‘on line jukebox'.

Philips is also leading the way in digital storage with significant developments that are reshaping the worlds of recording media and data storage. Following the tremendous success of the DVD format, Philips has driven DVD+RW recordable/rewritable DVD technology that bridges the PC and consumer electronics environments.
