United Arab Emirates (UAE) electronics retailer Plug-Ins ElectroniX, part of the Al-Futtaim Group, reported that 2.2 million people visited its stores from January to December 2003. The numbers comprise figures from statistics gathered from all five stores, including two that opened in May of this year in the UAE.

The highest number of visitors to Plug-Ins was recorded during the month of August, when over 200,000 visitors entering Plug-Ins stores in Deira City Centre, Marina Mall, Sahara Mall, Ghurair City and Lamcy Plaza. The figures have been attributed to the Dubai Summer Surprises event, which drew tourists to the region, especially from neighboring Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The footfall figures posted by Plug-Ins Electronix were also reflected in record sales registered by the retailer, according to a company press release. Stores recently reported a third quarter sales growth of 60 percent compared with the same period last year in stores that have been open for at least one year.

Al-Futtaim Group's electronic division consists of global brands in consumer electronics, household appliances, telecom, IT, air-conditioning, systems integration and software solutions. It retails through Plug-Ins ElectroniX branded outlets and after-sales service is covered by a countrywide service network. — (menareport.com)
