A Moroccan official, reported Al-Hayat newspaper, revealed that his country loses $2 billion annually because of environmental deterioration, climate pollution and a decline in the pure water reserves. These are the direct outcomes of the recently spreading drought and rising temperature.
The Minister of Environment, Ahmed Bahlawy, said that the water problem will be a major economic and social challenge for the Moroccan government throughout the 21st century.
Any future development and environmental strategy must stress the importance of guiding and protecting the available water resources, which are likely to diminish in the future not only in Morocco, but also in the rest of the Middle East and Northern Africa. –(Albawaba-MEBG)
