Abu Dhabi Educational Council to transform IT infrastructure - consolidates IT and standardizes on EMC technologies

EMC Corporation today announced the signing of a deal by EMC Middle East with Abu Dhabi Educational Council (ADEC) to transofrm its IT infrastructure by deploying EMC Symmetrix VMAX, one of the world’s most powerful, trusted and smart enterprise storage, with Fully Automated Storage Tiering for Virtual Pools (FAST VP), as well as EMC Data Domain and EMC NetWorker®. The implementation will enable ADEC to increase business agility and consolidate its back up processes into a single platform, all while reducing backup storage capacity requirements.
Customer Benefits:
Improved Performance and Availability – With EMC VMAX, ADEC expects to increase the availability and performance of its data center infrastructure and be able to deliver better quality of service and a more responsive and scalable solution to its users.
Highest Levels of Automation and Efficiency: EMC VMAX with FAST VP will enable ADEC to tier data depending on its importance. This means that non-critical information can be stored on low-cost storage, and high priority information on Enterprise Flash Drives.
Increased Scalability – VMAX will enable ADEC to effectively scale to meet its anticipated data demands over the years ahead and increase business agility, while helping prepare its infrastructure for a future e-learning platform.
Improved Data Protection and Faster Backup – By consolidating all of its backup processes into a single platform with EMC Data Domain, ADEC expects to ensure business continuity, streamline backup and recovery and reduce the use of tape.
Customer Challenges:
ADEC oversees, regulates and drives development initiatives in all of Abu Dhabi’s education sectors, including both public and private P-12 education, and higher education. The varying accessibility and performance requirements of each sector and the growing demand from its more than 15,500 users was placing increased stress on ADEC’s previous storage infrastructure, forcing a move to greater accessibility, scalability, efficiency and performance.
To support its exponential data growth, drive down maintenance costs and address performance challenges, ADEC selected EMC’s VMAX, one of the world’s most powerful, trusted and smart enterprise storage, along with Data Domain and NetWorker for backup and recovery.
Mr. Salem Al-Sayari, Executive Director of the Support Services Sector at Abu Dhabi Education Council: “We are confident that our new EMC infrastructure will help enhance management performance and increase business agility, which in turn will help achieve ADEC’s strategy to enhance ICT infrastructure in public schools across the Emirates. We are standardizing our IT infrastructure on EMC Symmetrix VMAX which will be protected by EMC Data Domain deduplication storage systems. Data Domain eliminates the storage of redundant backup data and ensures rapid, reliable recoveries that meet the most stringent RPO (Recovery Point Objective) and RTO (Recovery Time Objective) requirements. The system also delivers advanced next generation disk-based backup and recovery capabilities.”
Mr. Mohammad Younis, ADEC’s ICT Division Manager: “To increase our storage performance and utilization, while lowering costs, ADEC will deploy EMC’s fully automated storage tiering technology for virtual pools (FAST VP). Doing so, will enable ADEC to automatically optimize the placement of data onto the most efficient tier to improve performance.”
Mr. Said Akar, South Gulf District Manager, EMC: “EMC is pleased to collaborate with the Abu Dhabi Educational Council to help it achieve better management and performance, increase business agility, and lower costs as it initiates its journey to the cloud. At EMC we are committed to the educational sector around the world, which is why we create a range of infrastructure technologies and solutions tailored to meet our customer’s current and future performance and growth requirements.”
