Abu Dhabi International Airport Bags Top Recognition From ACI Asia Pacific for Its Environmental Drive

Abu Dhabi Airports announced today that Abu Dhabi International Airport is the first airport in the UAE to be awarded the Gold Certificate Recognition 2018 by the ACI Asia-Pacific (Airports Council International Asia-Pacific) in the airport category between 15 million to 25 million passengers per year, for its engagement and efficiency in green initiatives, and for displaying consistent commitment towards energy conservation.
ACI Asia-Pacific presented the award to Abu Dhabi Airports’ delegation representing the UAE’s leading airport in environmental conservation, led by Mohammed Al Katheeri, SVP Strategy and Communications, at its regional assembly held in Chiba City, Japan on 24th April.
The laurel has been merited to Abu Dhabi International Airport for its efficient execution of strategies that would ensure waste minimization at the Midfield Terminal construction site.
Mohammed Al Katheeri, SVP Corporate Strategy, Planning & Communications at Abu Dhabi Airports commented: “Receiving the ACI Asia-Pacific Gold Certification is an incredible accomplishment for us. This recognition is the culmination of expertise sharing their knowledge and adopting best practice towards ensuring that we deploy environmentally- friendly processes and procedures wherever possible.”
Al Katheeri added: “Abu Dhabi International Airport is committed to exploring and integrating energy efficient solutions to its operations and projects. As part of our green initiatives, we are ensuring we deliver an iconic gateway to the capital not only with its world-class services and facilities, but also in its sustainable design and operations. We are also eager to support initiatives that would promote further green practices.”
He also stressed that the path towards a greener future was not the responsibility of one organization, but required a combined contribution of the local community, and both public and private organizations.
“The certificate which commemorates the award will continue to inspire us, motivate us to work harder to reduce our environmental footprint, and help transform the emirate into a global capital for sustainability,” Al Katheeir concluded.
