Abu Dhabi Municipality Concludes 'Our Parks' Campaign in Wathba

Abu Dhabi City Municipality, in collaboration with its strategic partners, has concluded its awareness campaign entitled ‘Our Parks’ in Wathba. The event aimed to cement positive values and raise social responsibility towards maintaining public realms, parks and recreational facilities. The campaign was split up into morning/evening events with the morning events targeting students to heighten their sense of responsibility as regards protecting public amenities and urge them to pursue good behavior when visiting parks and recreational facilities.

The campaign was intended to realize the objectives of the Urban Planning and Municipalities Department aimed at activating social communication regarding protection and preservation of parks and recreational facilities. The initiative was also aimed at fostering the cultural, sports, recreational and environmental aspects of the community. The campaign echoed the Municipality’s plan to involve the community’s largest segments in protecting utilities as well as service & entertainment facilities, particularly public parks. The event was also meant to highlight the importance of frequenting public parks which reflect the civilized & modern appearance of our city. Therefore, raising environmental awareness, and encouraging positive behaviors with respect to maintaining the cleanliness of parks & landscapes, besides educating park goers about safe disposal of barbecue ashes is an essential part of the environmental awareness methodology adopted by the Municipality in cooperation with our strategic partners.

All events of the campaign focused on educating community members about the civilized behaviors and etiquettes to be followed when visiting parks, besides enhancing the spirit of social responsibility to protect public property.

The Municipality was also keen to carry out this campaign in accordance with a methodology aimed at accessing the largest community segments, particularly children. The morning events were oriented to school students who are presented with awareness-raising competitions targeting cycle-one students (from grade one to five). The events also include movement contest, free-drawing workshop, story reading and handicrafts workshop. The events also included a series of innovative awareness competitions such as awareness workshops on the unacceptable behaviors in parks, tampering with park property & facilities, and optimal utilization of these facilities.
