Abu Dhabi University gears up for the 2012 -2013 academic year

Preparations to welcome students registering to study during the first semester of the new academic year 2012 – 2013 are well underway on both of Abu Dhabi University’s campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Scheduled to end on the 30th of August, the registration period will be followed by an academic orientation for newly admitted students from 30th August to 1st September, while the first day of classes for new and returning students will be on 2nd of September. 

Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University, Dr. Nabil Ibrahim explained the importance of the academic orientation period for newly admitted students at Abu Dhabi University, as it helps them to be better acquainted with rules & regulations, policies, staff and faculty members. It also allows gives them a detailed introduction to the University’s undergraduate and postgraduate programs, in addition to the wide array of events and activities that are organized by the University throughout the year, pointed out Dr. Ibrahim. 

Dr. Ibrahim stressed that the University has initiated a comprehensive plan to enhance both its campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, including the renovation, development and maintenance of university facilities, classrooms, science and computer labs. “The plan aims to ensure that all University facilities are equipped with the latest technologies and services, that meet the student needs throughout the upcoming academic year”, added Dr. Ibrahim. 

The Chancellor pointed out that the University is also planning to launch several new undergraduate and postgraduate programs during the new academic year including: Master in Civil Engineering, Bachelor of Arts in Arts, Culture and Heritage Management, Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and Master of Project Management. “These programs will be offered only after obtaining academic accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research”, asserted Dr. Ibrahim. 

On his part, Dr. James Mackin, Provost of Abu Dhabi University pointed out that students who wish to enroll at the University must meet the requirements and acceptance criteria specified by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. “The general admission requirements for admission to any of Abu Dhabi University’s programs include: having a minimum grade requirement of 75% to enroll in the College of Business Administration, 80% to enroll in the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences, and 70% to enroll in the College of Arts and Sciences. Moreover, students must have successfully achieved 5.0 in each of the bands in academic IELTS, 61 on Internet-based TOEFL and 500 in Institutional TOEFL with 5 in Writing Exam”, concluded Dr. Mackin.
