Abu Dhabi University dedicated AED 102,761,395 on scholarships and financial aid since its inception

In its constant strive to attract academically gifted students and offer internationally benchmarked higher education degrees to financially deserving students, Abu Dhabi University dedicated AED 16,604,146 to scholarships and financial during the 2014- 2015 academic, which benefited 2,422 students. This effectively boosts the total amount that the University has spent on scholarships and financial aid since its inception in 2003 to AED 102,761,395. Aimed at awarding and helping students who exhibit exceptional academic achievement and students in need enrolled to study at the University’s Abu Dhabi and Al Ain campuses, ADU’s Scholarship and Financial Aid Fund has benefitted around 6,132 students over the years.
Chairman of Abu Dhabi University’s Executive Board, H.E Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri explained that the increase in the number of students benefiting from the University’s Scholarship and Financial Aid programs to 2,422 during the past academic year is a testament to the fund’s success in motivating students and encouraging them to excel. “This increase represents about 45% of the total number of students enrolled at ADU’s campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain during that same year. This underlines the University's keenness in attracting academically gifted students from all around the UAE and inspiring them through scholarships and financial aid to achieve academic excellence in an educational environment that implements international standards in teaching, scientific research, and community service. The allocation of these funds on a yearly basis to nurture academically and financially deserving students has become an integral part of Abu Dhabi University’s mission and strategy. As a national higher education institution, ADU is committed to building a foundation of specialized qualified graduates, who can excel at jobs created by the United Arab Emirates’ transformation into a knowledge-based economy, and meet the needs of the policy agenda of Abu Dhabi’s Government and its Economic vision 2030”, added Bin Harmal.
On his part, Dr. Nabil Ibrahim Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University explained that the new academic year starting on the 2nd of September 2015 will witness an increase in the University’s scholarship and financial aid budget, thereby allowing more students access to world-class education. “We have also started receiving applications for scholarships and financial aid from students who are newly enrolled at either of ADU’s campuses. After the deadline for submissions ends on the 31st of July, a specialized committee studies each case and application to announce the beneficiaries of our scholarship and financial aid programs depending on each of these programs’ different eligibility requirements. Through its wide range of programs, the Fund offers students several options that include: the “H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan scholarship”, the Chairman’s scholarship, the University scholarship, the Academic scholarship, the Athletic scholarship, in addition to the financial aid program “Sanabil”.
Newly registered students at ADU who are graduates of the IGCSE program have to submit their applications to ADU’s Scholarship and Financial Aid Fund from the 15th to 31st of August 2015.
Furthermore, although the scholarship and financial aid programs benefit only undergraduate students, the University has dedicated 25% financial support on fees to new students with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 or equivalent applying to any of the University’s diverse master degrees, as well as 20% to any of ADU’s alumni applying to continue their masters at their alma mater ADU.

The dream began with the Charter of Abu Dhabi University in the year 2000, After three years of planning, the university opened its doors in September 2003, to an entering class of 1,000 students on its two campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Unlike other colleges and universities in the UAE, ADU undertook the measures necessary to ensure that all of the degree programs it would offer had secured accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in advance of any students enrolling in them.
