Abu Dhabi University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science announced the launch of a new program in Information Technology, which will be offered to students on both the Abu Dhabi and Al Ain campuses. The new B.Sc in Information Technology, which was designed to match the ongoing developments in the field of information technology in terms of diversity and multiplicity of applications, offers students the choice between three areas of concentration which are: Web Technologies and Applications, Networking, Mobile Applications and Security, and Interactive media, Game Programming and Simulation.

Dr. Aly Nazmy, Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at ADU explained that the University’s launch of the new IT program was the result of thorough monitoring of the current and future labor market needs in the field of Information Technology. This field has experienced many changes in the last several years, both in application domains and technological advancement, and the new program was designed to provide students with the specialized skills they need to excel in the ever-changing field of Information Technology. He added that the program aims to keep students updated on the frameworks and productivity tools that have been proposed for large scale applications such as database application servers, search engines, decision support systems and e- commerce.

Commenting on the program’s outcomes, Dr. Nazmy said: “The B.Sc in Information Technology aims to graduate specialized professionals who have the ability to analyze problems and identify the computing requirements appropriate to the solutions, as well as the skills to design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, components or program to meet desired needs. Courses in the program will provide graduates the tools they need to understand the ethical, legal, security and social issues and responsibilities of their work in the field of Information Technology. Graduates will also be equipped with the skills needed to identify and analyze user needs in the creation, evaluation and administration of computer- based systems”.

Dr. Nazmi pointed out the concentration in Networking, Mobile Applications, and Security will offer students the opportunity to learn more about the most efficient and effective methods to administer networks, both wired and wireless. The concentration in Interactive Media, Game Programming, and Simulation prepares students to become game designers and simulation programmers or pursue professional careers as programmers, software engineers, or project coordinators in the game industry and fields associated with 3D simulation such as interactive game design, military tactical and strategic simulations.
