Abu-Ghazaleh appoints Khan to lead TAGUCB in Bahrain

Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh University College of Business TAGUCB has appointed Dr. Waheed Khan as TAGUCB first president in Bahrain.

Dr. Khan has extensive experience in managing educational institutions including the position of Vice Chancellor (President and CEO) of the Indira Gandhi National Open University, India, which with over 3.4 million students is one of the largest universities in the world providing access to quality education.

Prior to joining TAGUCB, Dr. Khan served as Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for nearly a decade.

In this capacity, Dr. Khan was responsible for leading UNESCO’s program on “Building Inclusive Knowledge Societies”, the primary focus of which was to harness the potential of Information and Communication Technologies ICTs to enhance access to quality education, facilitate acquisition of scientific knowledge and promote cultural and linguistic diversity. Fostering digital opportunities for social and economic inclusion through public-private partnerships was also a key component of this program.

Dr. Khan is the recipient of several awards and distinctions such asthe honorary doctorate ‘Doctor of the University’ by the UK Open University in 2012, the "Distinguished Service Award" from the Commonwealth of Learning COL, India 2000 Millennium Award for Education and World Peace and Super Brain of India Gold Award 2000. He was awarded honorary doctorate by Wawasan Open University, Malaysia in 2010. In January 2005, he became an honorary Doctor of Science, awarded by the Jamia Hamdard University in New Delhi, and in 2006 he was awarded the 2006 Dayawati Modi Award for Art, Culture and Education. In July 2008 he received a prestigious honorary fellowship from the Commonwealth of Learning, Canada.

The state-of-the-art TAGUCB will commence its academic session in September 2012 enabling students from Bahrain and the neighboring countries to enroll in this University. TAGUCB aspires to be a premier business education provider in the GCC.
