ADM Educates Workers at Fish Market About Public Hygiene Standards

The Abu Dhabi City Municipality, in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Fishermen Cooperative Society, organised an awareness campaign highlighting to workers and sellers at the Fish Market, Port Zayed, Abu Dhabi the importance of observing hygiene & public health standards when selling, processing and cleaning fish.

This event reflects the commitment of the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport to provide the best health standards for workers in public services. It also reflects DMAT’s keen attention to protect the health & safety of consumers, especially when it comes to foodstuff processing. The campaign stressed the need to observe cleanliness at the fish market, spread health & environmental awareness among workers, and nurture a convenient shopping atmosphere for community members.

During the campaign, the Municipality distributed awareness leaflets to workers at the fish market and all shops, to inform them about the standards of health, safety and environment. It urges them to protect the health and safety of market goers and consumers by following the stipulations & precautions required to practice fish sale and processing profession. The Municipality prompted workers at the fish market to get rid of the fish cleaning remnants properly.

The Municipality organises daily field inspections on two shifts (morning and evening) to the fish market, issues violations and serves warnings under the Law No. 2/2012 governing the public appearance, health and public tranquillity in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.  The Municipality is also keen to protect consumers from any harmful effects resulting from non-compliance with the health stipulations and civilised service requirements.

The Municipality and Abu Dhabi Fishermen Cooperative Society called upon the public at the fish market in Abu Dhabi to assist in ensuring the safety and health requirements. It called on them to report any violations during service delivery at the market such as fish fitness for human consumption, hygiene level, fish processing, disposal of waste, and market environment in general.
