Abu Dhabi Municipality Warns off 45 Salons, Seizes Expired Items

The City Municipal Center at Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADM) announced that it had served 45 warning to hair-cutting salons and beauty parlours, seized 1046 packs of outlawed/expired materials, and issued eight judicial injunctions to offenders as part of a series of inspection campaigns recently launched by the Center in Abu Dhabi.
The ongoing inspection campaigns made by the Center aimed to follow-up the compliance of hair-cutting and beauty salons with the standards set for this occupation by Abu Dhabi City Municipality. The inspection also aimed to detect and seize any illegal or unlicensed materials in use at these facilities in the interest of public safety.
The inspection campaigns covered men’s salons, ladies beauty centres, kids salons, outlets selling cosmetics, and ladies gyms. Inspection visits covered 686 outlets during which the Municipality seized 1046 packs of expired, outlawed or harmful materials, such as the black henna and Chinese henna, and served 45 warnings.
During their field visits, inspectors have detected several explicit violations relating to poor hygiene of the facility, using expired items, and failure to clean/sterilise equipment as well as the poor storage and dispensation of hair care products. These inspection campaigns are in line with Law No (2) for 2012 prohibiting any natural or corporate person from practising any business that may have a negative or harmful impact on the public health, hygiene and tranquillity in the Emirate.
Verbal warnings are served to beauty parlours in case of failure of complying with the hygiene conditions, lack of general maintenance, and poor cleaning of the facility. Before serving any offence, violators are offered a grace period to redress their attitudes and comply with the applicable rules and regulations. However, in case of detecting expired materials, poor storage of items, prohibited items in use or offering remedial services without an official permit, offenders will be served with immediate offence tickets or injunctions where the concerned judicial authorities will decide the amount of fine.
The Municipality is keen on running awareness campaigns targeting men and women’s salons to sensitise the staffs about the importance of complying with the rules and regulations for their safety and the safety of community members. They are also urged during these campaigns to maintain their facilities clean; which will ensure a clean neighbourhood as provided for in the applicable laws of Abu Dhabi City Municipality.
The Municipality obliges these facilities to observe the safety and health procedures such as First Aid and Fire Extinguishers. Hair salons and beauty centres of various types and different activities are ordered to comply with the health stipulations applicable to the facility as well as staffs, ensure the proper use & sterilisation of equipment, and ensure the full cleanliness of salons. The ultimate objective of these regulations is to nurture a healthy and sound environment free from communicable diseases.
The Municipality will keep continuous monitoring and follow-up of these facilities and will not tolerate any breach of the applicable rules and regulations for the sake of protecting the health of individuals and the community.
