Abu Dhabi University delegation attends 5th Global University Summit

A delegation of senior leaders from Abu Dhabi University attended the 5th Global University Summit which was held in Chicago, Illinois recently. Under the theme “Developing Talent to Drive Innovation in a Global Society”, the summit emphasized the role of universities in the global innovation infrastructure and hosted lively discussions on issues facing higher education in the 21st century, with more than 200 senior leaders of major research universities and industry from across the world representing 30 countries from 75 universities participating in the two-day event. 

Dr. Nabil Ibrahim Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University expressed the University’s pride in attending the summit as the only University that participated from the UAE. He explained that the University’s participation in the 5th Global University Summit was a great opportunity to discuss areas of mutual collaboration in research and student and faculty exchanges, with some of the most prestigious research universities in the world. “The summit hosted several panel discussions that highlighted crucial issues facing higher education including: the academic and industry perspective on the best practices of fostering innovation through higher education, the challenges in international mobility in higher education and the best mechanisms of creating an integrated system for successful international collaboration in education and research”, said Dr. Ibrahim.

“With today’s continuous advancement in technology, we are witnessing unprecedented examples of international cooperation among higher education institutions. Nevertheless, we must continue our work towards a better and sustainable future, and share ideas, resources, information and technology”, added Dr. Ibrahim. 

He lauded the summit’s success in shedding light over the main issues in research that are of vital importance in higher education, as well as providing a platform of communication for all participating universities to exchange views and experiences. “Abu Dhabi University is also honored to be one of the universities that signed the Declaration of the 5th Global University Summit. “We are committed to adopting its principles and initiatives, some of which include joint affirmations on: innovation and international collaboration, committing to playing a central role in the dissemination of knowledge within the community, in addition to several recommendations that were sent to the G8 Summit leaders”, explained Dr. Ibrahim.

The dream began with the Charter of Abu Dhabi University in the year 2000, After three years of planning, the university opened its doors in September 2003, to an entering class of 1,000 students on its two campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Unlike other colleges and universities in the UAE, ADU undertook the measures necessary to ensure that all of the degree programs it would offer had secured accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in advance of any students enrolling in them.
