Abu Dhabi University celebrates 3rd Annual International Day

Abu Dhabi University recently celebrated its 3rd Annual International Day on both Abu Dhabi and Al Ain campuses, during which over 400 faculty and staff members representing 15 different nations, enjoyed an ambiance of cultural diversity that was presented through cultural cuisine and folkloric performances.
Commenting on the significance of this annual event, Dr. Terry Motiuk Vice Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University said: “The Annual International day gives us a great opportunity to educate one another in a fun environment on globalization and its impact; and reinforce in one another the spirit of cooperation and celebration of differences that overcomes biological, tribal, racial and ethnic boundaries. It is also a great platform for staff and faculty to meet with their colleagues and peers, dialogue and experience samples from other cultures. We pride ourselves on being a multicultural institution, and this event allows us to celebrate and embrace our diversity. It also helps us sets an example for students to follow”.
On her part Mirna Al Zaghni Chair of the event’s organizing committee, pointed out that the International day was organized in collaboration with several of the University’s strategic partners including: “Yas WaterWorld”, “Mafraq Hotel”, “Ominex” and “Al Badaa Resort”. She added that the event included competitions for best national dress, traditional food and best folkloric performances. “More than 15 nations were represented in these competitions by members of our faculty and staff, including: Pakistan, India, Jordan, UK, Philippines, Egypt, Iraq, Canada, Syria, Lebanon, Sudan, and Palestine”, she concluded.

The dream began with the Charter of Abu Dhabi University in the year 2000, After three years of planning, the university opened its doors in September 2003, to an entering class of 1,000 students on its two campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Unlike other colleges and universities in the UAE, ADU undertook the measures necessary to ensure that all of the degree programs it would offer had secured accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in advance of any students enrolling in them.
