In conjunction with the activities of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2023 to unify and enhance climate action efforts, and the approaching date of the COP28, which will be hosted by the UAE this year, His Excellency Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower), said that the UAE attaches great importance to sustainability, preserving the environment and to contribute to limiting climate changes. It has launched various strategies aimed at increasing the energy efficiency and proportion of renewable energy, including the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, explaining that UAE is pioneering in the district cooling industry globally as the results of the  state's investments in advanced infrastructure and facilities of international standards.

Bin Shafar added that the UAE is applying a comprehensive approach in which it achieves a unprecedented level of sustainable developments. Over more than a decade of its sessions, the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week has achieved its core mission to lay the foundations for the concept of sustainable development in the UAE, and to attract partners with specialization and experience. The week has become an annual global platform to discuss the challenges facing the world and find solutions that contribute to advancing sustainable development.

Bin Shafar stressed that Empower, being the world’s largest district cooling services provider, plays an important role in addressing climate challenges, as it uses the latest technologies that achieve energy efficiency in space cooling, optimise energy usage in smart ways that encourage rationalization of consumption and the adopt green building standards.

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (EMPOWER) was established in 2003 with an objective to enable the real estate sector to efficiently utilize energy resources through District Cooling Services (DCS).  Empower was set up as a joint venture between Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and TECOM Investments a member of Dubai Holding through a Royal Decree issued by the Ruler of Dubai.
