Airport International Group welcomes First RAK Airways Flight

Airport International Group, AIG, the Jordanian company responsible for the rehabilitation, expansion and operation of Queen Alia International Airport, QAIA, announced the arrival of the first RAK Airways flight at QAIA. The airline landed for the first time in Amman on 7th August, 2013, at 02:30 pm local time, and was welcomed by a traditional water arch salute carried out by the Fire Brigade at the Civil Defense Directorate.
RAK Airways is scheduled to operate four flights a week from Ras Al Khaimah to Amman. The flights are scheduled to depart from Ras Al Khaimah at 12:20 pm, arriving in Amman at 2:30 pm, and depart from Amman at 3:10 pm, arriving in Ras Al Khaimah at 7:10 pm.
“We are very pleased to be welcoming the first flight from RAK Airways,” said Kjeld Binger, CEO of AIG. “AIG has and will continue to play a role in positioning QAIA as an active destination and connection point in the region’s air transport industry. Since 2007, and despite some minor fluctuations, QAIA has been experiencing growth in both passenger volume and aircraft movements, and we expect this trend to continue,” he added.
UAE’s RAK Airways now operates 11 routes and has revealed ambitious plans to reach 40 destinations by 2015. The recent two launches of RAK Airways to two capitals – Islamabad and Amman mark the airline’s first two destination launches in 2013.
