Al Bustan Centre and Residence observes annual Earth Hour

By spending an hour in the dark, Al Bustan Centre and Residence joined millions of people around the world who sent a powerful message about a brighter future for the planet.
During Earth Hour, the hotel switched off lights for one hour, from 8:30pm to 9:30 pm last March 28 from outside of the building, including outside garden and fountain, hotel entrance, hotel entrance signage board as well as guest’s corridor lights and other non-essential interior lightings.
For the seventh year, the hotel participated in observance of Earth Hour, the global environmental awareness event created by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The Management, staff and guests of Al Bustan Centre and Residence including Shopping Mall tenants participated in the campaign and gathered outside the lobby to hold the candle light ceremony. This year’s highlight was the “Yoga Session” where guests and staff participated at the Tennis Court with just candles lit. It was then followed by stargazing.
Moussa El Hayek, Chief Operating Officer, said: “Al Bustan Centre and Residence has been supporting Earth Hour initiative for the last six years. We believe that everyone is responsible to take an action in protecting the earth and to find solution to the threat of global warming. Our little effort when combined with what the rest of the world was doing created a big impact and I am glad that our staff and hotel guests supported this campaign”.
By participating in Earth Hour, Al Bustan Centre and Residence saved 1,000 units of energy. In dedication to environmental sustainability, the hotel also shared other energy-saving measures contributing to the green initiatives which includes the use of LED lights, compact fluorescent lamps, eco friendly fiber pillows, linens and towels, installed variable frequency in the AC system; water savers in rooms and kitchen; waste segregation and recycling and safe disposal of hazardous waste.
