Aqaba Container Terminal holds a free medical day at Disi providence

In line with its unwavering commitment towards the local community, Aqaba Container Terminal held a free medical day at four unprivileged villages located in the Disi providence, on the 17th of the this month.

The free medical day was under the patronage of Mr. Thamer Alfayez, Aqaba Mayor, and in collaboration with the medical center at Al Munsheer village, Arab Orient Insurance Company, Hikma Pharmaceutical Company, in addition to a number of specialized doctors.

The medical day which was organized by ACT employees included scheduling regular check-ups and medical examinations to more than 4,000 people, as well as providing specialized medical consultancy on various diseases. The day concluded with the distribution of symbolic giveaways to the participants.

ACT’s CEO Soren Hansen expressed his utmost joy with people’s reaction towards such activities, emphasizing on the opportunity to raise awareness on public health issues, in addition to ensuring ACT’s constant efforts in supporting the local communities in every aspect.

The free medical day is considered part of a series conducted on annual basis, ACT during last year held a free medical day at Al Rahma and Qatar villages in Wadi Araba providence.

Aqaba Container Terminal

In 2003, the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), on behalf of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, was on a mission to acquire a strategic partnership to improve the efficiency, capacity and the operational performance of the container terminal in Aqaba. After signing a Terminal Management Contract with ADC in 2004, APM Terminals (part of the global A.P. Møller–Maersk Group), took over the management and operation of the terminal.

A 25-year Joint Development Agreement (JDA) was signed between ADC and the Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) in 2006. Under the contract, APM Terminals Jordan operates, manages and markets ACT in addition to executing the Master Plan, which anticipates achieving a drastic increase of throughput capacity through a combination of physical and operational improvements.
