AXA Gulf, one of the largest international insurers in the GCC, has announced a variety of measures to ensure the well-being of its policy holders in these unprecedented times.

AXA understands that new ways of working require new ways of protection, so it has revised its product offerings to ensure the customers’ protection during the current situation.

Accordingly, during the period of confinement, the terms of Liability Insurance, for instance, have been updated and AXA will be providing free delivery risks extension to businesses including those who serve the community and whom are required to keep working during the quarantine period. This is specifically implemented to support our community and vital sectors such as groceries, supermarkets, pharmacies and restaurants.

AXA Workmen’s Compensation has also been extended to cover work from home for non-manual professionals and all admin employees who are required to work from home for work-related injuries. This cover will be extended to all existing and new clients, irrespective of the channel. All the above offerings will run until the end of the quarantine period.

Additionally, the new offerings include the Marine Cargo line of businesses, given their vital role in delivering essential products during these uncertain times. In Marine Cargo Insurance, AXA has defined major commodities that are categorised as crucial items, such as food and pharma products, which includes all kind of medicines, medical equipment and machineries amongst others. This initiative will also show AXA’s further contribution through discounts on the pricing on import shipments of selected commodities such as pharma and food chain, both for new and existing clients. It has also decreased deductibles and improved service level agreements (SLAs) in claim services for above selected cargoes. Finally, AXA in the Gulf have also enhanced operational services, placing a priority on ensuring service to its clients.

Ricardo Arroyo, Chief P&C Commercial Lines Officer at AXA Gulf, commented: “We are living in an unprecedented situation, and as an insurance company that is progressive and cares about its clients, we felt the need to do our part to alleviate the challenges that our clients are facing. In fact, AXA is the only insurance provider in the region to provide these extensions to help our clients. I am proud to say that AXA has risen to the occasion as a business partner that cares. Our initiatives will give our clients the peace of mind they need knowing they have partnered with an expert business insurance provider that has their best interest in mind.”

Background Information

VAT or Value Added Tax is a form of consumption tax that is imposed on a transnational level. The GCC has agreed to apply a uniform standard rate of 5%. This standard rate will apply to almost all domestic transactions. UAE and KSA will implement VAT on 1 January 2018, and the other GCC countries are expected to implement in the following 12 months.

In limited instances VAT can also apply at 0% (zero-rate), or transactions can be exempt from VAT, or out of scope.

How it works is that taxable businesses are generally able to recover the VAT they incur on their purchases and expenses.

However, as individuals, we are the final point of the supply chain and therefore, will bear the cost as we are not able to recover the VAT.
