Bahraini-Based ‘Mayadeen’ Publishes Exclusive Interview With Abu-Ghazaleh
Bahraini “Mayadeen” magazine held an exclusive interview with HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh entitled “Talal Abu-Ghazaleh: the Knowledge Worker who achieved his goal”.
In the interview Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh discussed the challenges and successes he underwent in the various stages of his life as well as the invaluable lessons he learned.
He explained how his daily walk to school under heavy rain and in hot summer temperatures for hours during his childhood initiated his first steps towards success; a walk that nourished his determination and shaped his future. Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh described the harsh living conditions he endured during his childhood as a refugee and the happy small details he will always recall despite the challenges and obstacles that could have hindered and frustrated others.
Moreover, Abu-Ghazaleh enthusiastically talked about the mission he pledged to adopt as a child; the importance of boosting education to support Arab people throughout the Arab world, which subsequently enabled him to initiate and establish intellectual and educational projects that serve children and youth. This mission made him chair of the ICT Task Force of the United Nations in 2001, despite the fact that he was an Arab and Muslim, which he personally stated in front of world leaders and ambassadors at the time.
Abu-Ghazaleh believes in the philosophy that ‘suffering becomes a blessing’ and that personal challenges lead to persistence to succeed and reach your goal.
Moreover, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh underlined the role of his family and the impact and influence of his parents who provided guidance to be confident, a believer and an advocate for honesty and good practices in his work.
The interview also revealed Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh’s passion for reading and his hunger for learning about the sciences, literature, new and innovative ideas and creativity towards which he dedicates four hours a day to learning and practicing this passion. The same applies to his passion and affection for classical music which he developed during his childhood when he worked at a music shop at the start of his career. This passion has been translated into an endless love for music, patronage of various festivals and musical events and orchestras not to mention the launch of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Business and Culture Radio Station which exclusively airs classical music.
In a different context, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh shed light on the various international posts he held as the first Arab personality to assume such positions. He chaired and led more than 30 international task forces and was the ideal personality to crystallize and disseminate a positive image of Arabs on a global level.
‘Mayadeen' also mentioned the books published narrating the story of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh’s life, most importantly ‘Blankets Become Jackets’ which was launched under the patronage of Sheikh Ibrahim Center for Culture and Research, highlighting the books' motivational and inspirational messages to readers about overcoming challenges in the face of obstacles.
Talking about his personal dream, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh said his wish would be the liberation of Palestine and the victory of human values and principles, while adding that as an Arab nationalist, he always called for the necessity of a unified Arab passport for all Arabs that symbolizes Arab unity and stands against all occupational attempts to destroy this great nation.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh concluded the interview by expressing his love and appreciation for the Kingdom of Bahrain particularly to His Highness Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al-Khalifa from whom he learned wisdom and modesty, noting that the Kingdom was one of the main stations on the road to his success that he will never forget.
