Bee'ah, the Middle East’s leading and award-winning environmental management company, has announced the installation of its revolutionary Reverse Vending Machines at Masdar Institute of Science & Technology in Masdar City, and at Abu Dhabi COOP in Abu Dhabi Mall. The announcement follows record participation in the Bee’ah Rewards programme from June to October, where scanned recycling receipts reached an astounding 92,396.

The first of their kind to be installed in Abu Dhabi, the new RVMs mark the expansion of the Bee’ah Rewards programme to the emirate. The expansion was made following increasing public interest in the programme, and will enable the engagement of larger audiences through placement in high footfall locations like Abu Dhabi Mall.  In addition to the locations in Abu Dhabi, RVMs can be found in Dubai at the Dubai Marina Mall, Dubai Marina Walk, Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 of the Dubai International Airport. Locations in Sharjah include Al Qasba, the American University of Sharjah, and Dibba Al Hisn Municipality in the eastern region of Sharjah.

Fahad Shehail, Chief Development Officer of Bee’ah, commented, “The expansion of Bee’ah Rewards to Abu Dhabi is the result of the monumental success we have had with the programme and the instrumental role it has played in our ambition for a circular economy. By bringing this programme to Abu Dhabi, we are integrating the resource recovery model into the fabric of the capital’s economy, and encouraging a habit of recycling to build a more sustainable future for the UAE.”

All members of the public are eligible to participate in the programme. By depositing a recyclable into the RVM, they will receive a receipt with a unique barcode. The barcode can then be scanned through the Bee’ah App to gain direct entry into the monthly draw. Winners are announced at the start of every month through Bee’ah’s social media accounts.

In the month of October, Bohdan Alexandrovich Korniienko won a trip to Casablanca, Morroco, while Islam Karim Buscado Elayek won a coveted Samsung Galaxy S8. More lucky recyclers included Lenard Philip Cristople and Nancy Diana Castelino, who won Platinum Class Tickets to Reel Cinemas. Sara Keramatollah Shokri and Bhaskaran Raman Kodiyeri were the fortunate recipients of Carrefour gift cards. Previous winners have won trips to Jakarta, Indonesia; Brussels, Belgium; Bangkok, Thailand, as well as exciting prizes such as Apple iPad Pros, Nikon DSLR Cameras, and Philips Full HD Smart Led TVs.

Launched at the start of 2017, during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, Bee’ah Rewards is a unique CSR initiative that hopes to instil recycling habits in the UAE population through incentivisation. Over the last nine months, participation in the programme has shown remarkable increases in collection receipts. With the Rewards Programme growing rapidly, Bee’ah hopes to increase the overall recycling rates exponentially by next year. The programme will help reduce the UAE’s collective carbon footprint significantly, while fuelling a sustainable and environmentally conscious cycle.
