Biolab, the Kingdom’s leading diagnostic laboratory that is accredited by four international bodies, launched the “Middle East 2 Jordan Food Panel”; a newly designed food allergy test customized to Jordan’s population and the Middle East region. This effort is considered a scientific milestone that is crucial to better diagnose and treat patients suffering from food allergies in the region, especially since allergy’s worldwide prevalence is increasing and continues to cause significant morbidity, sometimes even mortality in excessive allergy cases.

The new panel was designed by Dr. Issa Abu Dayyeh, Biolab’s Head of Immunology Department and his team, in collaboration with Euroimmun, Germany and includes 47 food allergens relevant to the country. The allergens were chosen based on the results of a previous study conducted on nearly 3,000 patients who undertook food allergy tests in Jordan. In addition, the test took into consideration the food consumption pattern in the Jordanian market and the feedback of local prominent clinical immunologists.

Biolab’s CEO and founder, Dr. Amid Abdelnour proudly announced this remarkable accomplishment saying, “Our research efforts and thorough examination of the Jordanian food market and feeding patterns have resulted in designing a food allergy panel that is considered the first of its kind in the region and we are very proud for this remarkable achievement.”

This new panel will include relevant food items such as milk, eggs, a wide range of nuts, fruits and vegetables. It also includes shrimp, oyster, crab, in addition to fish mixes that are largely consumed in our area, in addition to popular legumes such as peas, beans, and chickpeas, as well as spice mixes.
