A team of 60 British Airways employees from the GCC and beyond took part in a trek through Wadi Wurrayah, Fujairah to raise awareness of British Airways’ Flying Start initiative and to clean up the area.

Flying Start is the global charity partnership between British Airways and Comic Relief UK which aims to raise money to help children living incredibly tough lives in the UK and around the world including the Middle East.

The British Airways team was made up of employees from six GCC countries, India and the UK from a range of departments including Customer Service, Commercial Engineering, Cabin Crew, HR, Finance, Information Management, Revenue Management and Cargo. The team trekked 10 kilometres and collected 30 bags of non-perishable rubbish from the Wadi to improve the environment.

Lakshmi Aima, Regional Human Resources Manager, Middle East said: “The trek was a wonderful opportunity for employees to get active and roll up their sleeves to give something back to the community. Being a responsible employer and sustaining the environment is a key focus area for British Airways. Wadi Wurrayah is a stunning area and we wanted to help restore its natural beauty.

“Flying Start aims to change lives, one child at a time. The trek gave everyone some time to think of those who are differently privileged.”

The trek was organised under the auspices of British Airways’ Flying Start initiative and is the first of a series of treks that will take place across the wider Europe, Africa, Middle East, South Asia and Asia Pacific region.
