Burgan Bank Participates in Kuwait Women’s Economic Empowerment Platform Event
During the event

Burgan Bank, represented by Mr. Fadel Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer – Kuwait, recently took part in the Kuwait Women’s Economic Empowerment Platform’s (KWEEP) event, which was held at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre (JACC). The event called on all private sector institutions to collaborate in shaping the future of women in Kuwait. The Bank’s participation comes as part of its unwavering dedication to supporting and empowering women in Kuwait and especially in the Banking sector.
Commenting on the event, Mr. Fadel said: “Women, inside Burgan Bank and across our community, are integral to any serious plan for positive change and development, and acknowledging their unique value and vital role is the only viable path toward the growth and evolution of society and the domestic economy. As a signatory of KWEEP, it was an honor to represent Burgan Bank among several other private sector entities that continue to place women’s empowerment at the heart of their human capital development efforts and strategies.”
The event shed light on several key topics that represent both challenges and opportunities for the growth of women in the business and economic landscape of Kuwait – whether they are employees or business owners.
Under the umbrella of Burgan’s adherence to the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, as well as the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals, and Kuwait’s Vision 2035, the Bank recorded numerous achievements on the women’s empowerment front. This includes Burgan Bank’s commitment to achieving and maintaining gender equality in the workplace, resembled in its Kuwaiti female workforce that makes up around 48% of all staff, marking one of the highest rates of female employment across the Kuwaiti banking sector.
Furthermore, Burgan Bank remains dedicated to offering its employees of both genders equal compensation per job level, ensuring that they are all given equal opportunities for growth, especially in the leadership positions. To this end, the Bank offered its female employees multiple channels of personal and professional development, whereby women received 50% of the total hours of training fulfilled by all staff.
Burgan Bank’s efforts to empower women among its staff and its community include participating in several women-centric awareness campaigns, such as breast cancer awareness campaigns and workshops and the annual UN-led “Orange the World” campaign, which calls for ending the violence against women and girls.
